Clinical supervision
Good supervision isn't about getting through your hours. It's about becoming a more honest, more capable clinician. That takes a willingness to bring the hard stuff. If that's the kind of supervision you're looking for, we might be a good fit.
What supervision looks like here
We work with real cases. I'll ask you to bring the ones that are difficult, not just the ones going smoothly. I'm interested in what's happening in the room — the relationship, your reactions, what you're avoiding and why.
I work from ACT and attachment-informed frameworks, with a long background in early recovery and life transitions. That shapes how I think about cases, but I'm not trying to clone my approach. I want to help you develop yours.
I'll give you direct feedback. I won't wait until something becomes a pattern to name it.

Who this is for
Associates who are reflective by nature. People who can bring a mistake to supervision without falling apart — or who are working toward that. Clinicians who are curious about the work and genuinely want to grow, not just accumulate hours.
I work with AMFTs and other BBS-registered associates wherever they're based — California, internationally, or somewhere in between. My practice is fully remote, and I'm based in Sendai, Japan, so I'm used to working across time zones.
About
I'm Rick Kuchler, LMFT (CA #52407), founder of Kintsugi Heart Counseling. I'm a California-licensed therapist practicing via telehealth, currently based in Sendai, Japan. My clinical background spans community mental health, residential treatment, and private practice, with a long focus on early recovery and the therapists who do that work.
Before building this practice I spent years in training and supervision roles, including lead clinician, clinical supervisor, regional director, and Associate Director of Training. I've supervised close to a hundred interns and associates across those years.
I work from ACT, motivational interviewing, and attachment-informed approaches. I'll expect you to bring real cases, and I'll give you direct, practical feedback.
I supervise because I think good supervision changes the kind of clinician you become, and that matters for the clients sitting across from you.
